Anjar

The battle of Anjar occupies a middle ground between patriotic assertiveness and the heavy hand of the Ottoman Porte.
Anjar provided the opportunity for Fakhreddine II to extend his influence southwards to the district of Gaza and northwards to Aleppo and all the way to Palmyra in the east.
This expansion forced the Ottoman Sultan to bestow upon Fakhreddine the title of “Sultan of the lands” and to accept grudgingly his power over this vast territory.
