Purpose
Schools
The Society worked
through the construction and the direction of the scholar establishments to
facilitate to the underprivileged youths or orphans the access to the culture by
contributing to provide them a teaching of quality.
The technical School
Saint-Joseph at Dahr is Sawan
The Society is
associated with the lazarists Fathers and the daughters of the Charity to the
development of this School. It dispenses to about 300 pupils, orphans or social
cases, a technical teaching in branches of electricity, carpentry and the hotel
trade.
The free School
Saint-Vincent de Paul, in the socio-educational center Frederic Ozanam at
Bourj-Hammoud, opened its doors in October 1992. It is called to a cultural
radiance in a most underprivileged region of the North suburb of Beirut.
It is directed by a
Jesuit priest, Dutch, also francophone and arabophone. The center will also
include an accelerated professional formation School.

Saint-Roch
After its closing, for
lack of means. The Conference Saint-Roch Hazmieh takes the responsibility of the
management of the school.
Scholar help
It is translated by a
contribution of support to expenses of tuition and purchase of books and
supplies.
Handicraft
To sustain a population
stricken by hostilities, the field of our activities is varied.
The "Mabrouk"
workshop of quality embroidery, employs displaced family mothers. The production
of this workshop is disposed of in Beirut in a permanent sales point, situated
at the center socio-educational Frederic Ozanam and in Paris at the occasion of
a yearly exhibition.
Aged people
Batroun: A home for
people of the third age functions since January 1992. Inaugurated at Christmas
1991 by the international president Amine de Tarrazi, it already welcomes about
thirty boarders, A clinic there offers the indispensable services. The
house in its three floors can welcome about fifty people in rooms of two beds.
Chahtoul: Another home
for aged people is in way of construction at 40 kms of Beirut in the Kesrouan.
Works advance progressively according to available financial means .
Clinics
The Society opened during
the war 4 clinics managed by the local Conferences. They offer cares and
medicines to a category of the population impoverished by a speeding inflation.
These clinics are sustained by helps in parcels of medicines coming from Lebanon
or from our friends abroad.
Leisure's
The socio-educational
Center Frederic Ozanam at Bourj-Hammoud is called to play a cultural radiance
role in the region.
It already shelters a
scout group of 69 young
A cultural space or
polyvalent room will permit thanks to the varied artistic and cultural
activities the promotion of the underprivileged youth in this popular suburb of
Beirut.
Courses of surging are
given currently to about forty young's of the district.
A cine club enlivened by
the young of the center
Holiday Colonies
Several hundreds of
underprivileged children benefit every year of a stay in the mountain organized
by the Society
Milestones
The Society of
Saint-Vincent de Paul founded in 1833 in France exists in Lebanon since 1860. It
includes actually some 1300 members split in 43 Conferences in the five
districts of the country.
Similarly to the Society
everywhere it traditionally assisted families in the need, visited patients and
prisoners and attended to the formation and the instruction of the youth.
Confronted since 1975 to
confusions provoked by the war: destruction displacements of populations,
dramatic pauperization following of the ruin the economy and the inflation, it
had to organize itself in view to face these new problems, in the measure of its
means.
Reconstruction
Since the beginning of
the war, and even before the stop of fighting in the country, the Society of
Saint-Vincent de Paul - Lebanon, helped to the reconstruction of several
localities ravaged and burned, notably in the district of Akkar in the North
Lebanon.
Some 350 dwellings,
stalls and shops could be put back in shape in other regions of the country.
