at Mossul (Iraq) 1922
Attended primary studies at the Dominican Fathers at Mossul and his secondary studies at the patriarchal ecclesiastical College of the Chaldeans at Mossul. 1936-1947: Superior studies in Papal Colleges in Rome 1946:- He was ordained in December. Doctorate in philosophy of the university of Urban IV on the topic of the religious philosophy of Al-Ghazali He completed his Doctorate in theology of the University of Urban IV on the topic of the Patriarch Timothaos the Great, and the situation of the Christians during the Abbasside epoch. He achieved a Diploma in Cannon Law and Civil Law of the University of Latran. 1948-1956: Professor of philosophy and theology in the ministerial patriarchal Chaldean college at Mossul, and professor of religion in the governmental secondary college of Mossul. 1950-1956: Priest chaplain responsible for the Christians in the stations of the I.P.C. (Iraq Petroleum Company) from Karkouk to Tripoli (Lebanon). 1956: Patriarchal vicar of the Chaldean diocese of Karkouk, Arbil and Souleymanieh. 1957: Elected Bishop of the Chaldean Diocese of Maamadieh in Kurdistan (Iraq). 1962-1965: He was transferred o the Chaldean diocese of Beirut (Lebanon) until his election Patriarch of the Chaldean church, in 1989 during the Holy Synod held in Baghdad (15 - 21 May 1989). He spent 23 years at the head of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Lebanon, he was one of the founders of the Councils of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon; he participated in several committees which included: The executive Committee, The Catholic Schools Committee, The Committee of Communication Means of which he was the first secretary and the Ecumenical Committee. He represented the Catholic Council in the fourth General Assembly of the Council of Churches of the Middle East in Cyprus. He was one of the promoters of the adherence of the Catholic church as member in this Council of Churches of the Middle East. He is also a founding member of the Christian minorities union in Lebanon. He speaks French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, English and German. The main seat of the Patriarchate is in Baghdad (Iraq). In Lebanon, the Patriarchal address is Chaldean Patriarchate of Babel, Beit - Merry, Ras - Kafra, Villa St. Raphaël. |
